Elephant Parade’s Most Precious Sculpture

Elephant Parade’s Most Precious Sculpture

By Sean Ford | May 14, 2010

Eco Movers, Cadogan Tate’s specialist eco-friendly moving division, are set to install Elephant Parade’s 258th, and final, elephant at Somerset House on Friday 14th May.

Travelling all the way from the South of France, Eco Movers fleet of ultra low carbon emission vans are transporting the parade’s most valuable elephant, created by renowned photographer, Peter Beard, which is set to be unveiled a one of London’s most iconic landmarks on 16th May.

The first piece of Peter Beard art work to be exhibited in over six years, this one of a kind art work will be on display to the general public until June 23rd. It will then be the star lot at the Elephant Parade ‘Grand Mela’ auction, hosted by Goldie Hawn and taking place at Royal Hospital Chelsea on June 30th where it is expected to raise over £300,000 for Elephant Parade.

Beard has transformed the elephant sculpture, one of his most favourite and treasured species, into a wonderfully unique art piece that uses a selection of his celebrated photography to form a collage highlighting the plight of the Asian elephant.

Traditionally, the logistics behind such a vast exhibition would materially impact on the environment; however with their fleet of environmentally friendly vehicles and carbon reduction digital route planning technology, combined with strong eco-credentials, Eco Movers have been ideally suited to transport the 258 elephants – via 3,000 individual journeys – with minimal impact on the environment.

Elephant Parade London is the brainchild of Mark Shand, and features 258 life-size elephants hand-painted by an assortment of established and emerging talent from the art and design world, including Marc Quinn, Jack Vettriano, Diane Von Furstenberg and Lulu Guinness. Previous parades have been held in Holland and Belgium, rising over €1,600,000 in total.
